World class. Best in class. Best practices. Leading practices. There's a common ploy where clients hire consultants because of their ability to bring world-leading-best-in-class practices to the table. The problem is that even though clients say that, they never believe it because the client typically believes that what they do is world class. Such a paradox. So the next time someone asks you to bring world-best-leading practices to the table - just say no. Tell them that what you will do is improve their existing problem or process to something better. Tangible examples of all of the above terms are easy to understand in the world of athletics. For example, if I could run a sub 4 minute mile, I would call myself a world class runner. But until they start holding the olympics for corporations, you're better off saying, "let's continue to strive to be better at what we do - with the goal of becoming the best... as ...
