I've been part of a few organizations that experienced growth at a rapid pace. The growth was driven both organically and through acquisition. What I noticed over time was that the spirit of the firm that I joined slowly deteriorated as the organization got bigger. A tight community of partners that was easily accessible and personable to every practitioner became more bureaucratic. There were more standards, more processes, more announcements of structure, and just more of everything you had to check off. Was it painful? Yes. But necessary nonetheless. If you are of an entrepreneurial mindset, all of this "administration" will begin to get to you. And you may make the decision to go small. But here's the thing.
