Who remembers those famous words by Charles Barkley? "I am not a role model." Are you a leader running an organization today that's taken that message to heart? In your head, are you thinking, "I have a business to run. I am at the top. What do I care whether I am a role model or not!" If so. That's unfortunate. Whether you like it or not, the higher up you are, the more you become observed and mirrored. After all, you aren't the only one that wants to be a CEO, VP, Partner, or Owner. In addition, the higher you are, the less you are probably thinking about the people that are observing you. That's also unfortunate. Whether you like it or not, as a leader, you ARE role model. The worst thing that can happen is for your employees to say, "I have no desire to be in leadership because I don't want to be like you ." Again. Unfortunate.
